Planning a party can be fun if you stay organized. Being organized is key and is the best way for the host and hostess to ensure that guests will have a good time. The host and hostess can also enjoy spending time with their guests during the party if they have planned everything well in advance.

Planning the date is probably the first thing to determine. The guest list will be the next item to decide upon. Once these priorities have been established, it is essential that invitations be mailed out 3 weeks in advance of the date, with an RSVP request.

It is prudent to ask guests to state if they have any food allergies when replying, especially if the party will be a formal dinner affair. If the food at the get-together will consist of appetizers, salads, cold-meats, cheeses, and veggies and dip, for example, this knowledge will still be helpful. As a courtesy, it is good to be able to warn guests which foods contain allergens so that they can avoid them.

The place where the party will be held will also be established far in advance of sending out the invitations. If the party will be in the home, the planning will be different than if it is to be held at a hall or in a restaurant. Parties at home can be catered if the host and hostess does not want to cook or clean up afterward.

Catered parties also allow the host and hostess to enjoy more time with their guests. Having the party a hall or a restaurant also allows the guests to share more time with the people organizing the get-together. Having the party outside the home is also advantageous when the number of guests is too large for the size of the home, as in the instance of a wedding.

Planning the theme for the party is also fun. Sometimes the theme is predetermined because of a special event, such as weddings, baby arrivals, graduations, etc. Otherwise, themes can be created around holidays, birthdays and anniversaries.

When the party is being planned for a christening, the guest list is most likely to be made up of family and close friends. Planning for a christening for a baby, an older child, or even for an adult, is not much different than planning any other get-together. It can be fun and will be a success if the host and hostess are organized from the get-go.
