London is one of Europe’s largest cities and covers over 600 square miles. With a population of over 7.5 million, made up of over 270 nationalities with more than 250 different languages spoken, it stands out as the most diverse city in the world.

There are many reasons why people should visit this city so below I have listed my top ten of reasons to visit London.

1. Many top attractions are FREE
Some of the best attractions London has to offer are actually free. There are literally hundreds of museums and art galleries that are free to enter; the only cost may be for special exhibitions within each museum or gallery. The Natural History Museum is free to enter, the Science Museum is free to enter, the British Museum is free to enter and the Victoria and Albert Museum is also free to enter. The famous Tate Modern art gallery is also free.

2. Impressive Architecture
You can’t beat the architecture of some of London’s most famous buildings. The houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, St Pauls Cathedral, Sloane’s House and the Albert hall are just a few of London most famous historical buildings. Each is steeped in history and the architecture is truly breathtaking.

3. Shopping
Shopping couldn’t get much better than walking the streets of London and visiting some of the most famous shops in the world. You will need a large wallet unless you head for the many markets and back street shops. For famous shops you have Harrods, Harvey Nickols, House of Fraser, Hamleys, Selfridges and Fenwick to name just a few. For bargains you need to head for some of the markets. Portobello Market in West London is one of the most famous street markets in the world. Others include Camden market, Petticoat Lane market, Bermondsey Market and Brick Lane market, again only mentioning a few.

4. Nightlife
Fancy a night in the West end of London or how about a night in South London? The choice is yours, either direction you will find plenty of restaurants, clubs and pubs. London houses many major nightclubs, many of which used to be old theatres, railway arches, factories and warehouses. Some of the most famous clubs which can be found in London are The Minsitry of Sound, Fabric, Heaven, SeOne, KoKo and VIP Lounge.

5. Parks
Although London is hugely populated with hundreds of buildings there are also a surprising amount of green parks in the city. Some of the parks have monuments like the Princess Diana memorial fountain, which can be found in the famous Hyde Park. Other famous parks include, Kensington Gardens, Regent’s park, St James’s Park, Richmond Park and Battersea Park, again just naming a few.

So there are my 5 top reasons for visiting London. The British Monarch is another, fans of the Royal Family will love to take in all the Palaces and see Westminster Abbey where the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got married recently. Every person needs to visit London at least once in their life time, but if you want to see all of what London has to offer, you really need a lot more than just one day.
